This Fortress

by dandy   Mar 1, 2005

Breath of wind, droplet of rain;
Purity they do contain.

Needle of sleet and flake of snow,
critters hide warm and safe below.

Hot breath of the mouth, rises like steam,
as the glaze of ice on the rock does gleam.

This beautiful fortress comes alive at night.
Crisp to the senses and filling to one's sight.

Stars above wink down from the sky,
as the owl hoots, and coyotes cry.

Soft rustling in a squirrel's nest,
and breathing from a bear at rest.

A wonderful place this is for all.
Safe heaven alike for big and small.

Iron gates made of gentle breeze,
This fortress calms and does appease.

Go sleep now nature, see the moon's ray.
Save your worry for tomorrow's day.
