Midnight Moon and Starry Sky

In the dark blue midnight sky
the moon a silver dish
and the bright stars shimmering
a young girl child made a wish

she wished for a certain something
that would always be her friend
that would make her not so lonely
as they soared over the land

the next morning when she awoke
by her bedside she did find
a large dark blue midnight egg
of a most unusual kind

the color like the midnight sky
with a silver moon shaped spot
and many little golden stars
made by tiny golden dots

solid and unbreakable
she treasured it completely
and before she went to bed each night
she kissed the moon spot sweetly

within a week it began to crack
and shiver and roll and shake
and as the young girl watched and stared
a dragon did awake!

he looked exactly like his shell
and so she and he were named
Midnight Moon and Starry Sky
but girl and dragon were not famed

each night at the midnight hour
the moon mounted in the sky
the girl would mount the dragon and
together they would fly

still today the people whisper
when midnight strikes and the moon is high
you can see the girl and dragon
