Quite an entrancing poem.. many loose ends are left undone, although I like that in the way which it makes readers try and fill-in-the-blank. The presence of a.. lover??.. adds a tiny tinge of romance... it seems they helped you burn the village.. or perhaps, it wasn't a lover at all, but someone or something else.... the entire poem just gives off a hint of another mystery, another story behind its obvious decryption.

    Anyway, excellent work.

Wow, very interesting. I found the last stanza to be quite powerful and well done. The rest is good too though. Very well detailed and everything. I think this has become one of my favorites.

    Nope.

The visuals were nice. Story was, well... dark i guess, and u posting it in this section confirms that. Well, The village it takes place is some place in Africa correct? So i can definetly see why yo chose the colors you did. As for a deeper meaning to it, heh, we all have our own interpretations dont we Sean?

The massacre at Nyarubuye was terrible... this is an intriguing ode, to say the least. But I suppose quite palatable in comparison to the brutality of the events.

I really liked this. It portrayed an odd beauty found in a violent disaster portrayed by terrible imageries displayed as lovely romantic notes. I especially admired the last lines,
"We sat up on the hill
    and watched the village burn.
    Voluptuous plumes of smoke
    seductively drifted up--
    up into what would prove
to be a very red sunrise."
i also like how you used transitioning symbols like, "the sweet stench" to add to your effect of glorifying a terrible tragedy. Well done
