The Unkindness Of Ravens

by Cantchangeme   Mar 4, 2005

The raven calls again tonight
Jet black with an eerie smile
He calls with a knock upon my door
And I answer, He extends a wing
And beckons me to follow

I follow him through a dark forest
Where we walk upon a path
A path of cold staring faces
All eyes fixed unblinking on me
The raven calls and we walk on

We walk for miles and miles
The the raven stops suddenly
He once again extends a wing
Beckoning me towards a tree
I walk up to the tree and stare

There's something set into the tree
It shines bright in the moonlight
I examine the object, it is a mirror
I stare deeply into it as it shines
I have no reflection, was i ever there?

We carry on our walk, the raven calls out
The night seems to respond to his very call
I follow him still unknowing, unthinking
Soon all my aching eyes can see is the raven
His familliar shape illuminated by the moon

Suddenly the raven stops and stares at me
With a flap of his wings he takes flight

I sit alone and cold, thinking now
After a while the sun does arise
And my eyes tell me where I am
Somehow I already knew my fate
I am standing within a field of hearts

I awake now sweating yet cold
Just another haunting dream
The hearts still pumping in my head
I cannot sleep now, I'm lost
In the unkindness of ravens

i agree with Sam, the ending needs a bit of work but the poem's adventure was quite a tale! You have such a strong imagination and such a usage of words, still deserves a 5

    with love,
    Heather.
