The Rose

by Rima   Mar 5, 2005

The Rose

There she lay

Pressing a rose so red its the color of blood

To her stomach, cutting her skin

Waves of crushing pain washing over her

Defeated tears falling from her eyes so full of resentment

Crimson regret pouring from her beaten body

Her soul rots away from pent up anger

Vicious disappointment and self-loathing eat at her

Raw sadness lives within her core

Each cruel word left a scar

Her heart bleeds

She can't be saved

Drowning in a pool of deep regret and pain

The girl she once was becomes ghostly souvenirs

Of a girl she never will be

She has nothing to gain

She convulses

Trying to break free from the binds that hold her in hell

An unearthly scream rips from her blood red lips

She cries for deliverance, will she be denied

She whispers softly about memories that have shattered her heart

Her soul

Turning it black

Memory

She's looking at herself in the mirror

She hates what she sees

Out of anger she beats the mirror with her fists until they are bruised and bleeding

Strips of broken flesh

She runs her hand down the mirror

Leaving a bloody print on her distorted reflection

Let her blood run

She's one step closer to her edge

She looks, and she sees nothing, nothing but an endless darkness

She's slipping

Slowly falling into a frozen state

Numb, she can't feel a thing

She doesn't know what keeps her here

She can feel them pull her down

Dancing with death

She jumps and she's falling

Freefall

Falling to her destiny

She's laying spread-eagle on the ground

The rose wastes away

The petals fall and it bows to death

She painstakingly reaches for a petal, presses it to her lips, a thorn rips into her lip

And she says goodbye

Her last breath

Bury her under flower petals
