The Soldier

by Reddo Tori   Mar 5, 2005

Light is the day, black is the night
Mists roll over field and stone
Loons crying their mournful songs
To the cold moon.

A lone figure moves through the fog
Who is he? A young soldier
Ages gone from this world
He knows no life.

Silent footfalls part the gray blanket
Of grounded cloud, carrying the shadow
The echo, the frostbitten light
He walks alone forevermore.

Death he knows, Death he has seen
Family and friend lost to it
To leave always, not to join him
Grief binds him to this world.
