Shallow

by simi   Mar 7, 2005

Why are looks so important, its the only thing people see
they won't give you a chance so the can to see the person you could be
one glance and if you're lucky, a second look your way
and if you don't satisfy there eyes, you won't see them next day

i wish people wouldn't be so shallow, i wish that they would look past
what it is they see on the outside, to the things that really last
to look in a persons eyes, and see their soul hiding inside
showing itself only to those who look for something meaningful to find

i wish people weren't so shallow, that they're standards weren't so high
that they would set something aside, other than beauty and pride
to look into a persons eyes, and get a glimpse of the lair
thats home to a heart, full of feelings it needs to share

i wish people weren't so shallow, i wish they would see
something more important, like a spirit that flies free
to look in a persons eyes, and see the gateway to their mind
read their thoughts and their feelings, don't you wonder what you'd find?

but people will always be shallow, blind to everything decent
their eyes are constantly closed, since past times till recent
unable to look further than only what a first glance can show
and a candle burning brightly, because of this will lose its glow..

Good poem. I wish people weren't so shallow too.

    Take care,
