Killing Us All

by Hannah Leigh Pate   Mar 9, 2005

Every dark moon, he comes to hunt his prey.
Fresh blood from every maiden’s fair neck.
He draws them in, and sweet talks them away.
One, by one, they all fall, always another on deck.

Grandmother, would tell me such tales.
The hunter hunted, without any fails.
Nearly got caught herself, she would say.
Chanting the tune, cross in hand, keeps evil away.

“God help us, God save us all,
Evil has fallen on your beloved world.
Killing all who answer his call.
God, save us, every last boy and girl.”

Never did the dark man disappear.
He always returned, year after year.
Swooping in, with his poisonous smile.
Killing us all, never staying a long while.

Could he be stopped, no one knew.
Can he be killed, no one tried.
So, to this very day, the tale is no longer new,
Killing us all, until we have all but died.
