Ode to Depression

by Sara   Mar 9, 2005

Without you, my dear depression,
Where would I be?
Without you, my dear depression,
I would be tremendously happy.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would smile.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would laugh.

With you, my dear depression,
I slice my wrists to smithereens.
With you, my dear depression,
I cry myself to sleep.
With you, my dear depression,
I smoke until my eyes bleed.
With you, my dear depression,
I chug the rum from the bottle.

Without you, my dear depression,
I would lead a happy life.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would have a future.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would serve a purpose.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would follow God.

With you, my dear depression,
I continue to scar my body.
With you, my dear depression,
I slowly kill my insides.
With you, my dear depression,
I starve myself each day.
With you, my dear depression
I force my food out.

Without you, my dear depression,
Therapy would not be an issue.
Without you, my dear depression,
I would be a normal girl.
Without you, my dear depression,
School would be no problem.
Without you, my dear depression,
Suicide would not be a thought.

With you, my dear depression,
I suppress the girl inside.
With you, my dear depression,
I give away my heart and soul.
With you, my dear depression,
I long for the love of a father.
With you, my dear depression,
I shall leave the world a suicide note.
