Internal Forest

I can barely feel the heat of the moon
Cascade about my face
All I feel is the moving wind
As I cling to my self grace

Thorough as the wind may blow
It just can’t knock me off my feet
My body is heavy with swelling tears
And my heart heaves concrete

Tears stream like rivers down my cheeks
Words my soul can’t say
The trees move oh so steadily
Symbolically they sway

I cling to my waist
Shivering from head to toe
The tears and trees don’t help any
Swinging to and fro

My heart pumps useless blood
Throughout every vein
Honestly I don’t see the point
When I’m feeling so much pain

I listen closely to forgotten howls
Echo through my mind
I search vigorously through the forest
A forest I can’t find

I’m lost in self pity
Deliberate confusion
Shadows dance about my face
Casting an illusion

I see a face of old folk lore
Who’s swept throughout our hearts
Jesus his name, left in vain
Teasing me from the start

In this forest of delusions
I see so many things
Dark angels bleeding
Through their broken wings

Among these angels are many men
Humans who, too, are bleeding
Through open wrists of sacrifice
On their knees they are pleading

I look around in desperation
Afraid of what I’ll find
Afraid that if I see anything else
I might just go blind

The forest has forsaken me
Left me there to die
And my soul shall rest in peace
As my last words, I will cry
