Court Jesters

by Saige   Mar 15, 2005

In the days of yore,
The times of Camelot
Mere paupers they were
Godlike they were not.

With antics and jokes
They would dance and sing.
Cheap entertainment
Providing laughter for the king.

Today’s court jesters
They are treated like kings.
Lavished in gold
And all that it brings.

Expecting great spoils
To be revered and coddled.
Even looked upon
As a type of role model.

Their word is like law
People listen, take pause.
Some have no clue
Mere puppets for a cause.

So here we are today
In this present Camelot.
Says a lot about society
Does this not?
