The Sinners Door

by Alexandra C   Mar 15, 2005

They are stuck in the dark,
but they don't even know,
they are blind to light and
can't even distinguish friend from foe

They know no truth,
they see no light,
no one can make
their dreams take flight

They find no rest,
Their bodies are bruised and sore
and they continue to wonder
if there is something more

In their empty darkness
a grand black door appears,
but no one tries to open it,
they all stand back in fear

The door is not locked
and yet it stays closed,
what lies on the other side
no one really knows.

There is rumored to be a land
streaming with honey and waterfalls,
but they push it aside and say
it's probably not even there at all

But over time,
the door cannot stay veiled
they want to escape from their prison
where all hope fails

With tangled blond hair
dressed in rags that fall to the floor
a little wide-eyed girl
gazes up at the door

She put her hand on the door
and it opened with ease
she knew she was leaving their world
this, circus of fleas

White light consumed her
and for the first time she felt loved
She realized she had always been
guarded from up above

Though she couldn't always see the door
through the smog of her world
that didn't mean she hadn't always been
God's beautiful little girl
