Daddy Is Here

It was 2:40 am
And I got a call on the phone
I kissed my wife softly
And whispered its time for me to leave home

I put my arms around her
And gave her one last kiss goodbye
Trying my hardest
Not to breakdown and cry

I left a letter
Beside our bed
With everything I wanted to say
And this is what it read

Baby I love you
But I got the call
It was time for me to go out
And give my all

Be strong for me
I will be back when I can
Please just promise me
That when I come back I will still be your man

I will write when I get the chance
And will have our family picture by my side
I will think of you
Whenever I struggle in the fight

Tell our son I will miss him
Daddy will be home soon
And if he shall ever miss me
For you both to stare at the moon

Tell him it is time for him
To be the man of the house
And to be strong for his mom
While I am out

I know it is a lot to ask buddy

That year he died out in war
Left his wife and son at home
Trying their best
To make it on their own

His son grew up
Following his fathers steps
He wants to fight like his father did
And he knows what to expect

His wife is scared
Because they have two kids
And she wants them to grow up
Wit their father every day they live

He got the phone call
Just like his father did at night
And he kissed his wife
Then he holds her tight

She hangs on with all her might
Because she does not want him to go
At this point what ifs go through her mind
And she just does not want to know

What could happen
What to say to the kid
How she will go on in life
If he doesn’t live

He gave his kids a kiss goodbye
As he watches them sleep
And whispers I love you softly
So he does not interrupt their dreams

He is out in the field
And he knows his life is about to end
He is losing a lot of blood
And his breath is giving in

A few minutes later
He died out in war
And without a call or a letter
Someone showed up at the door

A man in uniform standing at attention
Said Mrs. Runge I am sorry to tell you this
She started crying
She could not believe it

He said we found this in his pocket
It was a family picture and a letter
And seeing his face
Did not make it any better

The man left the house
And she opened it up
It started with a greeting
Dear my love

And every sentence she read
Made the tears fall harder
And she knew this event
Was going to scar her

Then she read apart
That he had wrote
I can not wait to be home
I miss you both

She looked up to the sky
And she could feel him there
She wiped her teary eyes
And brushed back her hair

She knew it would be a great fight
To live without him
And it was one of those fights
She was unsure if she was going to win

Until her little son walked up
and said mommy what is wrong
Why are you crying?
Do not worry daddy will come home

And she put him on her lap and said
This is hard for me to say
But daddy will not be coming home
He is in heaven to stay

Then he wiped the tear
That fell down his moms face
And said yes he will
He is in a special place

He put his hand up to her heart
And said daddy is always here
Whenever you miss him just close your eyes
And you can feel him near
