The List (supposed to be under sad poems)

Back when I lived in an unhappy place
Back when I was just a kid
Back when my mom had bruises all over her body and face
Back when my happiness was up for the bid

My mom had been with my dad
For way too long
Then one night he got mad
And agreed she should be gone

So late that night, when he got done at the bar
He wrote a little list, in his scribbled font
Of what he wanted to keep of ours
And of what he didn't want.

It was split in two
One side Mom's, one side Dad's,
He wanted the radio, the apartment, too
Everything from the car to the mattress pad

On my mom's side, there was little at best
Only three things to read
She got her grandma's china chest
My brother, and me

I try to understand, but I can't
He didn't want his kids at all
His TV was more important
It makes me want to bawl

But I don't, because I realize
He isn't worth my tears
He'll never be up to par, never up to size
Let him not choose his children over his beer

He doesn't know what he's missing
I bet he has regrets, bet his memories are in a twist
I bet he's always reminiscing
I may forget I ever cared, but I will never forget the list.

**I am so glad he didn't want me... I do not want him either! I love my new dad so much better. ANd we still have the china chest... ;) This thing won't let me send the poem under sad poems, but it's supposed to be! **
