Light in the Dark

Amid these fallen stars
I walk with a heavy heart
The light is dimmed
And I wonder where to start

Where should I rebuild
What has been destroyed?
How am I supposed to know
What I’m to avoid

There is no real answer
Not one that I can find
No matter where I may search
Outside or in my mind

And as the pitch blackness
Starts to unfold behind my eyes
All I can do is wonder
What will be my surprise?

What will I get in return
For my staying here?
Another broken heart?
Another forgotten tear?

I like to think not
For my journey isn’t done
What can be well hidden
Can always be undone

And what may I build with
When I have nothing in my sack
What am I to do
When its everything I lack

When will the natives accept me?
I don’t think I’ll ever know
But as time wears on
My shadows will start to show

Because even in a world
Where darkness may prevail
There will always be instructions
Spoken or in Braille

And in a world where there is no light
It will thrive in a confused person
And only when they give up
Will the darkness start to worsen

Who knows if I have some good in me
Maybe it will start to show
And maybe if I’m extremely lucky
Other people will start to know

I’m not as bad as I may appear
Just a tad bit cold and alone
I guess that’s what I get
For building my life on my own
