A Worthy Goal

A Worthy Goal

My lad, we have been together of late
But I have yet to see you take the bait!
I have on several occasions noted your potential
Yet you have not capitalized on that essential.

You wrote a poem in which, you say, you flounder;
Well lad, I am ready for you to get my point sounder;
With me in your heart you can be greater you see–
You do not have to be a loser with me.

Kind Sir, I have enjoyed so much our relation,
It fills me with joy to the point of elation;
Yet loser I have played for the day as they say
So others could be winners who would have it no other way.

It has become, kind Sir, a pattern for me–
A hard habit to break since it works, you see?
Well, my lad, a terrible price you have paid
No wonder I first found you angry and staid.

It served to keep peace this thing that you did
But you are fortunate you did not by now blow your lid.
I want you to grow and move on from this point
Ere you later with me, my lad, disappoint.

Kind Sir, our walk together is so rich and delightful
That having you disappointed with me is quite frightful.
I will try to be calm, patient with self and insightful
And make winning and losing with others just a trifle.

A worthy goal, my lad, and together with me
You will succeed wherever you will be;
Just keep me in heart and for no extra fee
Your life will grow deep and rich as the sea.

(This is part four of my talks with the Lord
who now in my life I have taken aboard
to live in my heart and there to stay:
he is so delightful a guest in every way.

Part three was the poem where I flounder,
part two was called Sir and part one my first encounter
with the gentleman who asked what is my voice
and made his life in my heart my choice.)
