My Cutting Story

Thoughts flood my mind
As my eyes roll back in my head
These memories are from
The last night I bled

I’m far too terrified
To blink my eyes
For fear that the darkness
Will amplify the cries

Instinct tells me to run
To get away from it all
But anywhere I turn
Is a dark, endless fall

I’m stuck in this moment
Tortured by the past
Taunted by old memories
Coming back to me fast

So many old feelings
Won’t leave me alone
My head’s rushed with thoughts
And dark things unknown

With every second that passes
More thoughts enter me
Filling me with voices
Muttering incessantly

My nose begins to bleed
Anticipating more
I know what will happen
I’ll slice to the core

Voices beneath me
Above, all around
Inside and outside
Of me they surround

They tell me to do it
To grasp the old blade
And drag it through skin
To make all my pain fade

Their pitch escalates
Until it hits a high note
And holds that tone steady
Until, upon it, I float

They carry me gently
Still screeching commands
And they soon take control
Of both of my hands

My eyes catch a glimpse
Of the shine of cold steel
Mere seconds before
My flesh starts to peel

Scraping back skin
And when blood hits the air
I feel satisfaction
And a dangerous flair

I no longer struggle
I’m willing to see
What loss of blood
Can do for me

The voices get lower
Now a calming pitch
Rippling the puddle
Of a red liquid, so rich

Ripples spread outward
Reflecting my cuts
Forever growing outwards
So intensely, it’s nuts

Inches are won,
By a knife smooth and dark,
Of skin once so fair
Now plagued by the mark

I’m branded, tonight
The mark never fades
I’ve joined the dark cult
Of wicked sharp blades

There’s no going back
I’m here ‘till the end
And only because
I made crimson my friend
