Soldier

by Ana Weller   Mar 21, 2005

She cries every night and day,
Hoping her soldier will come home to stay.
She can't breath anymore without him by her side,
but he's gone now, gone with her pride.
She gets letters that make her smile,
But she frowns knowing he'll not come home in a while.

He can't sleep at night,
He has his thoughts on her and the fights.
He cries knowing she can't live without him with her.
He dies slowly inside knowing he can't be with her.
He curls up under the covers and writes letters to home,
Hoping sooner or later she will come.

Soon after she receives the letter from the camp,
A man came to her door on a night so cold and damp.
He told her the man had died in the last battle,
He was shot right off the horse's saddle.
All she could do was drop to her knees and cry loudly.
Knowing her love was buries in the earth, sleeping so soundly.

Now she can't look at his picture to stare at his face,
She can't do anything anymore at a steady pace.
Bag under her eyes, signing that she no longer sleeps.
But everyone knows her love for that soldier will always be forever deep.
