Attempt To Get Away

As he writes his mind on to paper
and thinking of the ways
to be able to move on
like it was another phase

to get up and run away
and never look back
to walk a different path
off the beaten track

as much as he wants
to live out this dream
he realizes it will never happen
quite the way it seems

because as soon as he feels
like he has gotten away
something brings him back
to the feeling of dismay

then he is back to square one
with no progress made
and painful memories return
and the smiles start to fade

back to the harsh beginning
as he tries to move ahead
he attempts to move forward
but is contantly knocked back instead
