Needing to Fall

Sometimes I just want to take my beating and fall down,
let my muscles relax and my body hit the hard floor,
let graceful sleep take me over and let me give it up,
trying to please everyone around me as I sacrifice so much,
but in the end I feel so alone despite the crowd of 'friends' around me,
listening to pointless conversations and wondering if I'm the only one with these thoughts,
so focused on personal image but so self-effacing nonetheless,
then I try to imitate those around me,
becoming a chameleon to everything from attitude to the way I write,
I want to be myself but so many people get in the way
