The Life of a Dying Child

by Lisa D Larson   Mar 24, 2005

A small child kneels before God every night
She prays in the darkness with an inner light,
Before I lay myself down to go to sleep
I want You to know my soul is Yours to keep.
She knows her life is rapidly coming to a close
She bids love to family, friends, and all of those.
Facing death a child accepts there is no cure
Walks into the shadows and hopes shes sure,
That she can leave everything in this world behind
Peace and understanding she hopes they all can find.
Looking in the mirror she sees herself in despair
And wonders to herself why she even has to care.
With all of this she wonders just how to cope
And deep inside she finds a little ray of hope.
Realizing that her time is drawing ever near
But somehow she is ready, she has no fear.
Inside her inner light starts growing more dim
And soon she'll be alright, she'll be with Him.
We all prayed and played out our little parts
From now on her memory lives within our hearts.

A very moving and poignant poem, a good reminder not to take life for granted and to be kinder(well a good reminder for me, I mean) none of us really knows what twists life will take or what someone is enduring.
