The words I’ll never say

by sarah   Mar 25, 2005

You came to me crying,
Saying “I just can’t let her go,
I really, honestly, hate her,
But her love is all I know.”

You think back on the days,
When you were hand in hand,
Talking about a future,
A future you both have planned.

“I was going to by her an engagement ring,
And a rose with a long stem,
But then she had to screw it up,
And fall in love with him.”

“I must have been a bad boyfriend,
Because she chose him over me,
I guess I didn’t satisfy her,
And give her all her needs.”

You look at me with a broken smile,
Hoping I will stop the pain,
I look back at you and smile,
Saying, “You’re not the one to blame.”

It is always the same each time,
You always come running to me,
I always let you cry on my shoulder,
Every time she has set you free.

You tell me that I mean a lot to you,
That you love me and I’m your best friend,
You tell me that you will always be with me,
You’ll stand by me till the end.

But how can you plan a future with someone else?
And say that you love me?
How can you love me, when you love her?
Is there something you don’t see?

I smile at you once again,
And walk you to the door,
I look into your eyes and give you a hug,
As my emotions soar.

Even though I want to be with you,
I have to let you go,
It’s true that I love you,
But those are three words you will never know.

The rhythm was excellent in the beginning but started to get a little rough in the end. Very good poem though :)
