Daddy's Not Coming Home

by Jacklyn   Mar 25, 2005

“Daddy’s not coming home”
That is the last thing mommy said aloud,
But he stared out his window screen,
Because the news he doesn’t believe,

He waited there for daddy,
Because today he comes home late,
Soon he will walk right through that door,
His arms flung open wide,

Soon enough he will give him a hug,
Daddy will too come home, mommy is just lying,
Why would she say such mean things?
Because his daddy will be back again,

The 6-year-old boy sat there all day,
No sign of daddy as mommy is still crying,
The little boy began to think, what if mommy is not lying?
As he sat there and looked out the window screen,

Then the little boy thought, daddy would not leave,
Because of the things he promised me,
But then why would mommy be crying,
If he would come home any minute?

What is it that he does not understand?
Was there something they said that he did not hear?
At the window he sat so long,
Wondering why his daddy wouldn’t come home.

This is very sad girl, very very sad. And not weak at all! I liked the way you showed the reader the true "childlike" emotions. It was very well written. Great work my friend. <3
