Coward

(For Taryn)
Unmelodic noises echo through this mind,
I’m captivated, yet so afraid,
Odious frowns mix in between the shadows,
They despise how I feel settled and staid.
Just so horrified at what I do,
So frightened, still so audacious,
I just live this life; I don’t try to be cruel,
I just never end up being gracious.
Our beliefs, our worlds they collided,
Our lives transformed in a second,
Because I took pride in who I am,
Their awareness wholly was beckoned.
I give them hollow answers,
Because open lies lose ease,
And truth leaves people jaded,
Even cynical if you please.
Euphoria comes without despair,
Jubilation and triumph over dejection,
Because I seldom get hurt anymore,
by them and their ugly rejection.
Hammer my heart while I sleep,
Talk slander will off to the side.
Because unlike you I’m no coward,
and I still possess some self-pride
