My Mother

I dedicate this poem to my mother..

The day I was born, it was the happiest day of your life. From that moment on, there was deep love, despite the unforeseeable strife.

Through my childhood, I knew I could depend on you. You were there- through the bullies, the taunts, the teases, the laughter too. But your support through all this, was as refreshing to me as the morning's dew. And I went through these years and never knew what you were going through.

As my life progressed through high school, we both knew it would be hard. Through girlfriends, peer-pressure, and even the report cards. Still, you supported me in whatever I did. Whether it'd be computers, or basketball, or piano and music.
Now I realize, since my birth, you were sick.

You've been struggling with sickness for fourteen years. As I learned this, my face streamed with tears. The reality of losing you is my utmost fear. But you did something I'll always hold dear.

As you came close, words of comfort filled my heart. "My son, I love you. I've loved you right from the start. But now isn't the time for me to part. However, when I do die, I'll know that I've raised you right. Teaching you dignity, integrity, humility and the real meaning of life."

So, as I sit here in the quiet of the night, I reflect on the fourteen years my mother had to fight. And so I will cherish the time I have with her each day and each night. For, we'll never know the time when she will have to end her fight. And I will always remember what she teaches me- dignity, integrity, honor, humility and the real meaning of life.

You are my teacher, my helper, my shelter, my friend. On you, whatever situation, I can always depend. No one else could have taught me better and I will always remember your sacrifice forever. I love you and cherish you. You are my mother.
