My Hailie

by Marissa Cabot   Mar 31, 2005

When I am older I'll have a daughter, Hailie.
She'll quickly learn words like
"Mommy" and "Daddy"

She'll grow so fast, before my eyes.
A miracle, a wonder, time - it flies.

She'll become an adolescent, a budding pre-teen. We'll roll our eyes and disagree - she's a total drama queen

Oh how darling, on her first date. I remember the first time, I waited till late. For her safe return, I know in time...

Fresh out of school, she runs to me.
"I couldn't have done it without you Mommy!"

Like she'd always dreamed, her relationships change.
She and her boyfriend are getting engaged!
They'll save up for the big day; I know they'll be happy. I feel so much for her in my own special way.

The night before, she'll get cold feet.
She'll worry so much.
She'll weep and weep.
Me being her mom will comfort her and hand her off her father. He hands her off to the man who will marry her.

So old. So mature, my Hailie she is. She and her husband are ready for kids! Try as they might they soon have some luck. I immediately buy the baby a stuffed duck.

After months of blood, sweat and tears my baby's baby is here! She holds it tight, like I did the same and for the first time she whispers it's name.

Her baby grows old as I do too.
"I remember raising you."
Her baby is healthy, just as it should be and my baby is happy, just as she should be.

Waking from my daydream, I look to the skies. I can't wait to see the look in my Hailie's eyes.
