A bird on my sill

by Timothy   Mar 31, 2005

The day I was born,
A robin was on the sill of my nursery;
He cocked his head, in that springtime splendor,
Staring at me with utmost curiosity.

The day I first fell in love,
A dove roosted on the sill of my bedroom;
She stared at me with amorous, glistening eyes,
That same love eventually made me a groom.

The day that my wife found out she was pregnant,
A stork stood outside my living room window sill;
He pranced to and hither, a little, excited gait,
And we danced in delight at what was about to become real.

Today, in my old age,
A raven landed on the sill of my hospital detainment;
He is eying me with eyes ever so black,
A peace is about to unfold, a release from my containment.
