We All Bleed Red

by Carlee Ann   Apr 1, 2005

I look down at my skin
Peach with a tannish hue
And yet people call me white
Why not just call me red, or blue?
Then I look next to me
At a supposedly "black" girl
But I see a deep, rich caramel
Is every one color-blind in this world?
Why are some hated for their color
Red blood is what we all bleed
We each have a heart, a soul
The same wants and the same needs
Sometimes I wished we lived in the dark
Where no colors could be seen
Where no one could discriminate
If you were white, black, or green
So maybe I'll just close my eyes
And see the person for their mind
That way I won't worry about
The colors my eyes may find.
