Rise Like the Sun Don't Fall Like the Moon

by David Paul   Apr 1, 2005

My voice was audibly shaking from fear,
Your eyes opened wide as you said "what" but I knew you could hear,
I'd done what I had wanted to do for a long time,
Asking you out without a poem or rhyme.

You looked at me and said "I'm sorry but I can't say yes,
I stood there wondering why, was I to much of a mess,
Then you started to talk and said " I do like you,"
"I'm just not to crazy about some of the things you do."

I felt like I had been shot right through the heart,
Regretting asking you and thinking I wasn't that smart,
When I got home i went to my room and took out my knife,
That very moment I was prepared to take my life.

But something kept me from stabbing myself through,
Maybe it was the thought of another chance with you,
Or maybe the fact that my life wasn't done,
Everyday it renews just like the sun.

Its been three years since that day you said no,
Sometimes people remind me and I just say "So,"
"She taught me a lesson I had to learn soon,"
"I need to rise like the sun and not fall like the moon."

Love the title and the ending. In the second line, however, it should be "hear" instead of "here".
