Among the crosses

by Sinister Soire   Apr 2, 2005

I sit among the marble columns
And gaze down endless rows
Each stony pillar another life
And the humanity it shows

This place is built to remember
The events that took place
So long ago this many died
And this is the last trace

Statues and great buildings
To honor all the lost
But most of all the great fields
Of white to show the cost

Spreading out in all directions
The crosses with out number
Each one a name and simple date
And to all eternal slumber

In around the endless crosses
Below the cloudless sky
I think about the many lives
That for this had to die

wow good poem. i know how you felt. i went to belgium a couple of weeks ago and also went to the somme. i just sat there and it made me think just how many soldiers died durin both of the wars. you can't go with in a mile without seeing some sort of grave yard. we vistited the trenches of the german, south african and british and it was such a strange experiance as you are walking the same footsteps as those who lost their lives for us. any way great poem hope you rite more. loads of love xxxmelissaxxx

    Logan,
    Very creative and thoughtful
    piece, it was wonderfully written.
For some reason the first stanza
really stood out the most. Nice
    work, 5/5

Oh, this one was sad. Quite alike "endless fields" but i think this one was better. It had an even better meaning than the other one.
