The Island (A Memoir)

by Eibutsina   Apr 3, 2005

Crystal waters of the deepest blue
Sand white as cirrus cloud
Frangipani and hibiscus perfumed
Swaying coconut standing so proud…
Scent of sea salt endlessly lingers
Oceanic waves crash upon the shore
The heat of the sun beats down on the island
Truly a captivating island to explore…

The sound of native children playing
Their precious laughter fills the air
Lunch is roasting crisply by the beach
Subtly the warm breeze blows through your hair…
Grains of sand slide between your toes
A ships horn sounds from a far
The island, a destination of solitude
The island I long to be…but a memoir…

Fantastic poem. I feel as if I'm on your island. Very good imagery! Thanks by the way for your good comments on my Red Baron poem. Your family owns part of the plane? I bet that is a great story. I know the Australians were around when it crashed so did someone in your family grab a pieice? Thanks for sharing and again good poem.
