As I Say You’re The Greatest.

by Daphne Darling   Apr 4, 2005

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

If I were to say something to you right now,
All would say is "I hate you" nothing more,
And I know I would regret opening my mouth,
Because even if I hate you, I still love you more.

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

With nothing in my mind but your picture,
I'm slowly slipping away from it all,
While you'll smile and encourage me to rip it apart,
There’s always in the background a sneering face.

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

I can't say I've ever cared for you like this before,
Because that would be me lying to you again,
And I can't say I'll always be there for you,
Because I know something will drag me under.

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

If I were forced to face you once again as I am,
I think I'd crack, fail, and fall apart in front of you,
I'm a shattered reck and it's all fading so fast,
I'm not keeping up and you’re still strong in this.

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

If I were to say one last thing to you now,
It would be "I hate you" nothing more nothing less,
And all I know is that it'd haunt my life forever,
Because I know that even when I've hated you most.

“And there's no awe in my voice,
As I say you’re the greatest,
It’s a ringing echo of what used to be.”

I've always loved you more than anything else.
