Elvis, thank you for the memories

by Shelby Bridges   Apr 4, 2005

I didn't know the difference
when I first heard your sound
Seems like everyone was talking
when your music came around

And when you blessed the stage
at the time they didn't know
Your music would live forever
and their love would only grow

Some said you were just a flash
you would fade before to long
That it must have been the devil
who put the music in your song

In you he put the dance
while the demons played your band
Somewhere between the crossroads
as you walked that delta land

But little did they know
how you spent your younger days
The churches of the bible belt
you learned your gospel ways

As the many roads you walked
you always stayed the same
A fear that once surround you
seem to parish with their blame

So now as I look back
at the difference I didn't know
That your sound will live forever
in our hearts, mind and soul

Elvis, thank you for the memories
may your music always grow
