It was a dark, cold, and scary night,
She just bought food, walking with no fright.
She pasted a deserted payphone,
When it rang it’s deadly tone.
She turned to walk in the phone booth and answer,
But would you have guessed that would be the end of her?
Well, it would be; after the subliminal threat she received;
A dark man on the other side; so quite, then he gently breathed.
Somehow, it startled her and she gave away a mortal scream.
He said, “Do not fear. This will not hurt as much as it may seem.â€
She pleaded in the phone, “Who are you? Tell me please!â€
All she heard was static; it broke her and she found no ease.
Few words spoken, but she knew the ghastly threat,
If she hung up, it would be all she would ever regret.
So, she stayed on the line for three horrendous days,
Constantly putting dimes in the slot as her final pay.
No one would find her for years to come,
Still listening to the static’s low hum.
And after all these horrible, wretched years,
No one knew she died, simply fearing her fears.
To this day, no one knows what might have become of her,
If she simply hung up or if she never did answer.
