Keep It Awhile

by Stef   Apr 7, 2005

I gave you a heart all taped up with a smile
You took it and promised to keep it awhile
All in all it was fun, with the blood and the pain
It was a dangerous romance, so we made it a game
I gave you it all, and laughed when you took even more
When you begged for my wrist I never asked what for
The razor was cold as you cut my fragile skin
The look in your eyes said it all as crimson flowed from within
After that it was like sex, always exciting, always new
I'd never felt a razor glide like it always did with you
In the darkness you'd slice while I'd smile and I'd wince
In daylight I wore long sleeves, closing my eyes when we kissed
But it ended so sudden, one day the razor went deep
But you swore that you loved me as I drifted to sleep
I awoke to a note written in blood of my own
It said the night was done, and you had gone home
That day I cut more, to try and lure you back to me
I yelled into silence that only for you I would bleed
But your body was found lifeless on a scarlet floor
My wrists weren't satisfying, so you went for something more
At your funeral I cried, and thats when I decided to quit
And somehow I missed you, but I won't ever admit
That I gave you a heart that just needed to be saved
And when you promised to keep it awhile...
You took it to your grave.
