Where Will That Get Me?

by SamiJo   Apr 8, 2005

I am not ashamed of who I was, or who I have become.
I am proud of the way I live my life.
I have nothing to hide from anyone, my life isn't a big secret.
I live my life the way I want to.
I don't try to be someone I'm not; where will that get me?
I try to be myself, optimistic and strong-willed.
I try to look for the greater things in life, sometimes I see them, others I don't.
Some people put on big shows for popularity.
In the long run, where will that get me?
I want people to like me for who I am, not who I want to be.
If they don't, then I have failed.
To succeed, people will accept me, love me, and take me as I am.

Samijo,,Im becoming a fan of your writting--I think this poem gives advice everyone NEEDS to hear--I sure needed to hear it--Thanks for opening my eyes and making me realize a simple way to live life--To live life the way you want to--'BE yourself' is commonly heard but this touched on so much more and gave me a good feeling of who I AM and what i love to do--Imitation is suicide--Its so hard to find strength in yourself and your Importance to others--I find myself looking to others and actually imitating them cuz I see how they make others smile and want to be around them--BUt it makes you lose sight and the real you hides away--and nothing satisfies you cuz its impossible to be someone your not--You just have to put those thoughts behind you and just not think about it----I guess you just have to lean on trust and just let things be as they are and not try to be loved, but to love others and see what happens--only good comes from this--Thanks for this advice--it made me realize I like the way my life is and should try to wear a smile more--Cuz being afraid, depressed, and angry--'where does that get me?' thanks again!!
