Happy Hour

by Jacklyn   Apr 10, 2005

From 6 to 8 happy hour takes place,
72 hours before Christmas day,
A huge ice Storm is on its way,
We suggest you stay home,
Or at least drive safe.

These thoughts run through my head,
I will drive slow with my friend Fred,
Tonight we both Celebrate,
Drink as much as we can hold,
It's two drinks for the price of one.

We are just two friends just hagging out,
In my car we arrive at the bar,
We both got so drunk,
We felt giddy and invincible,
The ice storm is gone.

It should be safe to travel home,
We slipped across the sidewalk,
We skated to our car,
We were laughing so hard,
As we slammed into the car door.

Opening the door was tough,
Glued shut and frozen tight,
Finally getting in,
We stated the engine up,

We glided across the road,
The faster the more fun,
Least we wore out seat belts,
Slamming into the side of a Vehicle,
The two cars danced together,

They slipped and they twist,
Finally slowing to a stop,
After hitting many curbs,
The fun has finally stopped,
As we unbuckled and rolled out.

Dizzy as I stood up,
I thought I saw a girl standing,
Off the side of the road by the fencing,
Thank God she's all right,
As I stumbled to her side.

But the closer I got,
I couldn't believe my eyes,
blood covered the street,
when i noticed half a leg on the road side.

I approached the young lady,
Two full legs on her body,
Then hearing crying from the ground,
But I blocked the crying out.

Still walking to the young lady,
I began to talk loudly,
"I'm sorry we hit you,
Least the injuries aren't to survivor,
Only a cut on my head and hand,
And your standing so you can't be too bad."

She did not say a thing,
I figured she did not hear me speak,
So I say this again,
"I'm sorry we hit you,
Least the injuries aren't to survivor,
Only a cut on my head and hand,
And your standing so you can't be too bad."

But again there was no answer,
She just stood there and stared,
So then i moved up very closely,
When i realized her feet dangling,
I looked to the top of the fence,

As her body hanged there still,
Her neck was broken with cuts of glass,
Her body must have flung into the air,
Like a coat it was just placed upon the rack,
Frozen inside I could not believe my eyes.

Sirens pierced the scene,
Then heard a policeman scream,
"There is one in this icy cold gutter,"
I turned around to see,
a young lady missing half a leg,

Laying in ice up to her chest,
They called 911 for medical help,
I approached the wounded girl,
Her and her friend looked to be only 17.

I sat on my knees,
Next to the crying girl on the street.
"I need to go home, my mommy needs me,
I need to go home, my mommy needs me,"
she repeated constantly,

"I am so sorry, please, I am so sorry,
I am so sorry, please, I am so sorry,"
I repeated for forgiveness,
We both sat there pleading,
For a whole 60 minuets.

The ambulance came,
Maybe this one can be saved,
She lasted this long,
but is missing so much blood,
She died in the ambulance, she will not be going home.

Just because me and Fred had drank too much,
The first thing to hurt the most,
Two teenage girls will live no more,
Because 6 to 8 happy hour takes place,
Just 72 hours before Christmas day.

~This is true, these two guy really did walk away with only a few cuts and these two teenage girls died so painfully. The guys were drunk and the girls wore no seat belts. The girl crying to go home, her dad died 6 weeks before.think before you drink~

What a saddening story. It was very well told, but so awful that this happened. Drink driving is horrible.

not really a poem , but a 5 for the AMAZING story. It sends out a great message not to drink & drive, even more horribly, it's a true story.....wow, I felt some tears in it....thank you for sharing it, Jacklyn.
