Not Just A Game

by Carlee Ann   Apr 10, 2005

The sweat drips down my cheek
Mixes with my tears
The satisfaction that I seek
Has never been so near

I've practiced every day and night
Perfected every pass
Now it is time to fight
Time for glory at last

Some people see a field, no more
I see a place to shine
This is all I work for
Why the team practices all the time

The whistle blows
Setting all of us free
We shift into the perfect flow
Each player becomes a part of me

The opponent strikes, we're head to head
We battle for the revelation
Of victory on our homestead,
Of reaching our destination

The defense stands imperishable
The offense works the ball
The suspense becomes unbearable
We've given it our all

Finally a break
The opposition gives in a bit
It's more than they can take
As our ball reaches their net

This is what we thirst for
Why we take the blood and bruises
Now we rage, we want more
We aren't going to lose it.

We've won the fight
They never even score
Everything went exactly right
We've never worked harder before

Don't you say to me
That soccer is just a game
This is what I work to be
My glory and my shame

I proudly wear my battle scars
I work for the taste of the win
Sweat, blood, no matter how far
I find meaning again

Say what you will
But realize this
A hole inside of me is filled
With my futball bliss.

**If you made it this far, I'm glad. Soccer is my game, and I really love to play. It's really where I let out all emotion... I leave it all on the field. Thanx for reading!**
