Distance of the Heart

by Garrison   Apr 14, 2005

How wide must the ocean be
How high, the mountains.
What great walls must be built
Until I no longer see?

For how I carry you
In thought and in dreams.
Can sustain me for a lifetime
And move me forward.

Between each breath I take
I whisper your name.
And what would be impossible
Becomes so real.

Today I am grateful
And can’t take you for granted.
I feel blessed for what we have.
Let me not be a fool.

I dare not change the past
To relish my today.
I’d surrender my life
Just to keep the memories.

For my memories of you
I keep close to my chest.
The minutes you gave me
Are like hourly gifts.

Whatever God brings me
Be it a river or drought.
The distance between us,
None are in my heart.

For Fay
