Is this how it must be?

Is this how it is?
Everyone taking sides
fighting for what they believe is right
What is truly right and what is definitly wrong?
How can we tell?
You told me you didn't think it was right
to get involved
when I had no place
It is just how I feel
my opinion
but I guess that doesn't count
for much
maybe I should just let it go
and let those who it affects directly deal with it
but I can not help
this feeling of guilt
like I should stand up
and say something in their defense.
Maybe I should
I should be my own person
voice my own opinion
but how far will that get me
in a society where they are not accepted as human beings?
how far will people go
to make their life a living hell
why can't they just be accepted like
everyone else
but I guess if it was like that life would be too easy and people
would not be the same
strong
individual
independent
but still
some are still weak
and I guess you become strong after being weak for so long
you can only deal with so much
but some cant deal with even a little
and then they break
is that what people want?
to bring down others
just because they like something
that is different from what we are
used to?

~I am not personally affected by this issue, but after something happened that made me realize how bad these people are treated, I had to write a poem to express my feelings. It might not make a whole lot of sense, I was really upset and confused when i wrote it, but it's how I feel.~
