Withered To Black

by Danielle   Apr 15, 2005

My heart has far too long been sore
Broken countless times, busted and worn
Lying in pieces from disgraceful shatters
There’s bareness in each and every tatter
Carelessly given away, abused too far
They merely won’t fade, these deepened scars
Love is what it, sadly, no longer knows
Love is what it doesn’t recognize or show
Weakened, still beating, and awfully cold
Gullible, it believed the words it was told
Hearing ‘I Love You’, it once held trust
Never imagining that was said out of lust
It has seen it all and given up on hope
Putting up a shield, that’s how it copes
Protecting itself from anymore pain
The only way for me to ever stay sane
Excusing itself from unwanted closeness
The last thing it needs is useless stress
I’m looking at you; my heart’s your desire
I’m sorry but my heart you’ll never acquire
Unless you’re willing to pick up the pieces
Put them back or let it fade, slowly to cease
It needs help, someone to make it believe
All it knows of is shameful, unneeded deceit
If you’re gonna break it, just give it back
Another day in solitude, it’s withered to black

[Drifted off topic, grrrr...]
