Happy birthday

by RB   Apr 16, 2005

Today would have been your birthday,
You would have been sixteen,
This would have been the day,
we answered all of your dreams.
The presents we present to you,
if our undying pain and grief,
Our never ending lost faith and belief.
Instead of celebrating the day you took your first breath,
We remember the painful memory of your death.
People remember every horrid detail or the way you died,
Over and Over they listen to how I cried.
You were beaten and raped,
Bruised and scraped,
Then it was your life,
He did finally take.
This isn't how it should be,
This isn't the way we should honor your memory.
We should be remembering that you were a kind and generous soul,
A beauty inside and out no other could control.
A passionate heart, and strong intelligent voice,
Always showing mercy,
giving others a choice.
So Happy Birthday girl,
My heart sings my song out to you,
I will wait till the day I will finally see you.
But for now this is a memorial of your life,
Not your death.
I will love and praise you,
until my very last breath.
