Here Lies Poe

by Peter Williams   Apr 17, 2005

A man died,
Alone in a gutter.
Did anyone care?
Did anyone care?
The man had a raven on his shoulder.
“Nevermore”
“Nevermore”, it squawked.
The man was a legend.
But did he die a legend?
Did he get credit where credit was due?
“Nevermore”
Was he rich?
Was he famous?
“Nevermore”
Does it all matter in the end?
“Nevermore”
Was his heart black?
Or was it broken?
“Nevermore”
Here lies Edgar Allan Poe.
Quoth the raven, “Nevermore”
