Making Memories Last

by Tanya, Mom of one.   Apr 18, 2005

Watching my little girl grow up,
Doing the things I've done.
Watching as she explores the world,
As fast as her legs can run.

I see her digging up little bugs,
Bringing them for me to see,
I hear her little voice say, "Look Mommy!!!!"
And I hear her squeal with glee.

I wish I could tell her these times are the best,
The most simple, and the most fun.
But how can you explain to a child almost 3,
Who is always on the run?

I see her busting with excitement,
As she simply walks thru the grass,
Even tho she is almost three,
I wish these moments could last.

She opens her eyes every morning,
Hoping that it is sunny,
Then she asks, "Can I have Rice Krispies?"
I say, "Yes, of course you can honey".

To watch her toddle and bounce around,
I try to etch memories in my mind.
The experience of watching my child grow up,
Is heartbreaking, but of the best kind.

Its sad to see my little girl,
Growing up so fast,
I wish I had a way to capture it,
And make these moments last.

So if you ask me the meaning of life,
I know exactly what I would say,
Its watching my baby girl, and the world thru her eyes,
And just taking it in every day.

Children are the most innocent of things,
Their little imaginations running wild.
Today our yard was an ocean in her eyes,
Full of "sharks and fishies" for miles!

Cherish each moment with your child,
I am learning that with each passing day.
For soon enough, she will be grown,
And out in the world, on her way.

No longer will bugs be amazing,
Each blade of grass will be overlooked,
No longer will the flowers entice her,
The butterflies will no longer get a second look.

The four-wheeler will be a distant memory,
The times of watching "Tom and Jerry", a thing of the past....
How I wish I could keep her safe in my arms,
How I wish I could make these times last.
