Good-bye Friend

I got a phone call just yesterday
it was my mom telling me
my friend Rod had passed away
I just stood there in total disbelief
thinking he can't be gone
he's just a couple of years older than me
We met in high school
he was the boy every girl dreamed about
imagine my surprise when he asked ME out
I just looked at him I thought it was a game
because in high school I was very plain
Why would he want me
when he could have any girl in the school
I was very cautious
not wanting to look like a fool
but he kept insisting I was the one
we dated for a while we had a lot of fun
he wanted to get married but I wasn't ready just then
so we parted and promised to always remain good friends
I owe a lot to Rod...
He was the one that God sent to help me
when I wasn't thinking straight and I tried to take my life
He somehow knew what I had done
he never left me, he stayed by my side
As the years passed and our lives drifted apart
I never forgot him, he holds a special place in my heart
I hadn't seen him in years for he had married and moved away
now he's gone and there's so much I wish I could say
like what a special man he was and what a great friend
I would say thank you Rod for always believing in me
I'm glad you were part of my life
I'd tell him that I love him and I'll miss him, I'd hug him really tight
tell him we're buddies till the end
then I'd say my last good-bye to my very special friend.
