Only a Child

by Leah   Apr 19, 2005

Only a child,
sitting on the stairs,
a grandmother whispering,
sweet soft prayers.

Only a child,
with a high supply of tears,
can watch its mother die,
by a man who drinks too many beers.

Only a child,
can you redeem its trust and love,
can watch its grandma beaten,
pushed around and shoved.

Only a child,
can cry,
then start to laugh,
can go with a man,
to the wild zoo,
see the monkeys and giraffes.

Only a child,
will stand up to a man,
get hit in the face,
and finish what this man began.

Only a child,
will try to kill the one,
who took its family,
and took away the sun.

Only a child,
who is taken from its home,
will try to commit suicide,
because death is all,
its ever known...
