The girl

by Jiminy   Apr 21, 2005

Haven't written in a while,
I wonder if I've got the knack.
For the medium I relied upon,
On which I turned my back.
Times change and people grow,
Older and more wise.
Accumulated knowledge of the way,
People spin their lies.
I found a partner, another soul,
Floating on the breeze.
However I'm still lonely,
I must be hard to please.
We talk, we laugh, of trivial things,
Debate the evils of the world.
Slowly, yes, but surely,
Our dance starts to unfurl.
Maybe I am selfish,
But is it such a crime,
To ask of this fair lady,
A moment of her time?
She must go here, she must go there,
But never where I am.
Perhaps I must be lonely,
Though I'm now a taken man.
I push aside commitments,
For a chance that she may call.
But when I answer the ringing,
She has no time at all.
But 15 minutes can she spare,
For me at the other end.
She has to get off quickly,
To ring her other friend.
I get told later, they talked for hours,
Of many different things.
It's not that I came second best,
But last and that's what stings.
I'm new to her life, I understand,
Let me put forward my case.
I never wanted to come in first,
But perhaps to get a place.

The hardest part is, I think I love her.
