In This World

by Luke   Apr 21, 2005

In this world, we are sick
and nothing is for free,
Oil makes us tick
and blessings are obscene,
In this world, we're all alone
and the night starts too soon,
Words are sticks and stones
and hate is full as the moon,
In this world, we see the dead
and grief is all but here,
Lawless guilt weighs like lead
and our hearts have turned to fear,
In this world, a conscience kills
and there is no escape,
There is no price on pills
and no penalty for rape,
In this world mistakes are made
and nothing is for sure,
We all wish the sun had stayed
and condoms are a cure,
In this world, no families exist
and souls are what we sell,
The evil inside, you can't resist
and let me welcome you to hell.

I loved this dark life poem... it certainly highlighted the bad factors in life, even though the good had been left out.
"Words are sticks and stones" I LOVE that metaphor, it's basically a poem in its own right, the whole "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me." you've changed it around definetely to make words hurt more than actions, which they can.
This had a very omnipotent feel to it; you've captured angst well.
    :-) great work!
