Footprints

As I walked along the beach today
I noticed the footprints in the sand
And they made me wonder inside
Who had stepped across this land

Maybe a newly wed couple in love
Or a cute perfect family of four
I just cannot stop thinking to myself
Who had been in my place before

Was it a young child trying to escape
Only finding safety away from home
Thinking about walking into the ocean
As along the shore he would roam

Maybe someone who knew my pain
How it felt to feel more than scared
As I walked along the cold waters
I felt as though my soul was bared
