Sitting beside the flames

by Unrequited   Apr 25, 2005

Crumpled, old newspaper lying on the floor
it’s time has past, it has no more purpose
the stars shine brightly
every evening as i watch them
a meteor glides across the sky
i lack an answer to my question
my purpose i have yet to find

i open up the box of everlasting thoughts
and submit a new entry
the only one who will read it is me
cause i am now alone
and yet i seek the comfort of another soul

does anybody understand who i am?
does anyone know what life is all about?
no one thinks they know, but they are wrong
to find answers, you must seek the truth
live your life, and you will know what it is all about

remember when life was simple?
remember when everything was so sweet?
i do not remember such things…
as i watch the stars tonight
the scars begin to fade
and nothing will ever make sense again
as long as i’m alone

my box of everlasting thoughts
holds no more purpose
secrets no longer kept
feelings left undesired
and questions with no answers
i am lost, and maybe that’s how i’m supposed to be
no belonging to anything, as i sit and watch the stars
waiting for a fresh new day

i wake up in the morning
i see the smoldering fire has burned out
and when i look for the answer why
it is nowhere to be found
because i threw my box away
and all there’s left to do
is take that old, crumpled newspaper
and use it to relight that fire
with no purpose left in this world
but to burn out once again
i am still alone, sitting beside the flames
